Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our marine performance gear – from fit and fabric care to returns and warranty.

1. What type of marine apparel do you offer?

We specialise in high-performance technical clothing for sailing, offshore racing, coastal cruising, and watersports. Our collection includes waterproof breathable jackets, insulated smocks, flotation aids, base layers, shorts, trousers, gloves, and footwear – all engineered for demanding marine environments. Every product is designed to provide comfort, freedom of movement, and reliable protection against wind, spray, rain, and cold. Whether you are a weekend dinghy sailor or a seasoned ocean racer, you will find equipment suited to your level of exposure and activity.

2. How do I choose the correct size for foul weather gear?

We strongly recommend using our detailed size guide available on each product page. For jackets and trousers, take measurements of your chest (under arms), waist, hips, and inseam while wearing the base layers you expect to use on the water. Marine outerwear is often designed to fit over mid-layers, so do not size down for a “snug” fit – you need room for arm articulation and layering. If you are between sizes, we advise sizing up, especially for offshore gear where mobility and freedom are essential. For gloves and boots, refer to the specific hand/foot circumference charts. If you have any doubt after measuring, feel free to reach out via our contact form for personalised advice.

3. Are the jackets and trousers truly waterproof? What technology do you use?

Yes, all our shell jackets, bibs, and trousers are constructed using advanced waterproof and breathable membrane technologies combined with fully taped seams. We use multi-layer fabrics that meet or exceed industry standards for water column pressure (tested above 10,000mm). Breathability ratings ensure sweat vapour escapes while rain and spray stay out. Many of our high-end offshore models feature articulated knees, adjustable neoprene cuffs, high-cut collars, and double storm flaps over front zippers. For extreme conditions, we also offer reinforced abrasion zones at the shoulders and seat. The gear is designed to withstand hours of continuous downpour without wetting out, provided you follow the care instructions (see question 6).

4. Do you sell buoyancy aids or life jackets?

Absolutely. Our range includes ISO-approved buoyancy aids for dinghy sailing, paddle sports, and inshore use, as well as manual and automatic inflatable life jackets for offshore and coastal sailing. All flotation devices are built with durable fabrics, multiple adjustment points, and reflective patches for visibility. Some models are equipped with integrated harnesses for tether attachment. We focus on low-profile designs that do not restrict arm movement during active sailing. Remember to always check local regulations and ensure your chosen device matches the intended use (buoyancy aid vs. life jacket). Spare gas cylinders and firing heads are also available separately.

5. How should I care for and wash my waterproof marine gear?

To preserve the performance of your waterproof garments, always follow the care label inside each item. General guidelines: close all zippers, Velcro, and press studs before washing. Use a liquid technical wash (never powder or fabric softener) on a gentle cycle at 30°C or 40°C. Avoid biological detergents as they can degrade membranes and DWR coatings. After washing, line dry away from direct heat sources. Once the garment is clean and dry, restore the durable water repellent (DWR) finish by tumble drying on low heat for 20 minutes (if label allows) or by using a spray-on DWR treatment. For heavy soiling from salt, oil, or sunscreen, pre-rinse in fresh water. Do not dry clean or iron the breathable membranes.

6. What is the difference between “offshore” and “coastal” ranges?

Our coastal collection is ideal for day sailing, inland waters, protected bays, and moderate conditions (force 3-5). It generally features lighter fabrics, less insulation, and simplified closures – perfect for warm weather cruising and inshore racing. The offshore range is built for prolonged exposure to heavy seas, strong winds, and low temperatures (force 6+). Expect reinforced fabric at high‑wear points, advanced breathable membranes with higher waterproof ratings, integrated harness attachment points, articulated patterning for maximum movement, double-adjustable cuffs, and high-protection collars. Offshore suits also often come with fleece-lined pockets and extra drainage on pockets. Choose coastal for comfort and packability; choose offshore for uncompromising safety and durability when miles from shore.

7. Are your products suitable for extreme cold or winter sailing?

Yes. We carry thermal base layers (merino wool and synthetic), mid-layer fleeces, and insulated smocks that can be worn under your waterproof shell. For very cold climates or high-latitude sailing, we also offer lined trousers and expedition-weight jackets. Many of our offshore jackets feature a removable or fixed thermal lining. We recommend the three-layer system: a wicking base layer, an insulating mid layer (such as a fleece or light primaloft jacket), and a waterproof breathable outer shell. Layering allows you to adapt to changing temperatures. Additionally, our neoprene gloves, boots, and balaclavas provide essential heat retention for hands, feet, and face when the wind chill drops.

8. Do you offer any kind of warranty or guarantee on your products?

We stand behind the craftsmanship of every item we sell. All marine apparel and equipment are covered by a comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and proper care. This warranty does not cover wear and tear, damage caused by accidents, misuse, improper storage, or lack of maintenance (such as failing to restore DWR). If you experience a manufacturing defect, such as seam separation, faulty zippers, or membrane delamination, please contact our support team with proof of purchase and clear photographs. We will evaluate each case and arrange a repair, replacement, or appropriate solution. For inflatable life jackets, we recommend annual servicing – the warranty covers original defects only; consumables like cylinders are excluded.

9. How do returns and exchanges work?

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, we accept returns on unused, unwashed, and re-sellable items with all original tags attached. For hygiene reasons, we cannot accept returns on underwear, face masks, or opened life jacket service kits unless faulty. To start a return or exchange, log into your account or use our returns portal. You will receive a return shipping label. Once we receive and inspect the returned goods, we will issue a refund to your original payment method or send the exchanged size/colour. Returns for reasons other than a defect or dispatch error may be subject to a restocking fee (this will be clearly communicated before you proceed). We highly recommend trying on foul weather gear over the base layers you plan to wear – this minimises wrong-size returns.

10. Do your products contain PFAS / PFC chemicals?

We are committed to reducing environmental impact. Our current collection uses PFC‑free durable water repellent (DWR) finishes on the majority of jackets, trousers, and accessories. This means the exterior fabric treatment is free from long-chain fluorocarbons, while still providing excellent beading and water shedding. Membrane technologies vary by product; some of our professional offshore models still incorporate ePE (expanded polyethylene) membranes that are PFC‑free as well. We clearly label each product’s environmental specifications where applicable. We continuously work with our production partners to increase the use of recycled materials and more sustainable chemistry without compromising marine-grade durability.

11. Can I use your sailing gloves for other water sports like paddling or fishing?

Our glove range includes models specifically designed for sailing (with reinforced palms, cut fingers for knot work, and neoprene backs for warmth). Many customers also use them for kayaking, paddleboarding, inshore fishing, or general boating because they provide excellent grip when wet and protect against rope burns. However, for heavy-duty fishing or prolonged paddle sports, we recommend checking the glove’s abrasion resistance and cuff style. Our full-finger neoprene gloves are versatile for cold-weather paddling, while short-finger “dinghy” gloves offer dexterity for warm-weather tiller or sheet handling. Always match the glove to the expected exposure: if you need impact protection or extreme thermal insulation, look at our dedicated paddle mitts or offshore work gloves.

12. Are there any special features for women’s specific marine clothing?

Yes – we offer a growing selection of women’s tailored marine garments. These pieces are anatomically engineered with narrower shoulders, shorter torsos, and articulated hips for a better fit and performance. Women’s jackets often have curved seams and adjusted collar heights, while trousers feature a contoured waist and reduced rise. The technical fabrics and waterproof specifications are identical to our men’s/unisex range. We also carry women’s specific buoyancy aids with shorter front panels and adjusted arm openings. Always refer to the women’s size chart rather than converting a unisex size. If you have specific fitting questions, our customer service team can guide you based on your height, chest, and hip measurements.

13. How should I store my sailing gear between seasons?

After the sailing season, always clean your gear thoroughly with fresh water and a mild technical wash (see question 5). Allow everything to dry completely – never store damp foul weather gear. Hang jackets and trousers in a cool, dry, dark place with good air circulation; avoid folding or compressing for long periods, as this can damage the membrane and crease the DWR. Life jackets should be stored in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight, extreme heat, or chemicals. For inflatable life jackets, check that the cylinder is still hand-tight and inspect the indicator for green status. Neoprene items (boots, gloves) can be stored flat after drying; do not fold the neoprene sharply. Proper storage doubles the lifespan of your marine equipment.

14. Do you sell spare parts or repair kits?

We understand that small components can wear out even when the garment is still good. We stock replacement zipper sliders (YKK compatible), Velcro patches, neoprene cuff repair glue, and seam sealing tape. For life jackets, we carry re‑arming kits, cylinder replacement, and indicator windows. Additionally, we supply replacement drawcords, wrist gaiters, and button studs for smocks. If you need a part not listed on our website, please contact us with a photo and the product code – we will assist you in sourcing the correct spare or advise on a compatible alternative. This approach reduces waste and keeps your trusted gear on the water for many seasons.

15. Is your gear suitable for competitive racing or just recreational use?

Absolutely both. Our product lines include club‑level coastal wear, but also fully race‑proven apparel used in events such as offshore regattas, round-the-world challenges, and Olympic class training. Race‑specific features include reduced bulk for freedom of movement, high-visibility colour accents, reinforced grab points for harnesses, integrated tool pockets, and advanced breathability for high‑output activity. Many of our foul weather jackets also feature a “race cut” with pre‑bent sleeves and dropped back hems for optimal posture on the helm. Whether you are grinding winches in a weekend fleet race or crossing an ocean in a fully crewed event, you will find regulations-compliant gear that gives you a competitive edge while keeping you safe and dry.
